There are no shortage of stories in the world where a demon or demon enters the body and makes the body sick.

There are no shortage of stories in the world where a demon or demon enters the body and makes the body sick.

In the morning, we can hear about various kinds of demonic diseases like sticking out the tongue and drooling...being possessed by trembling of the body...being curled up in the corner of the house without eating or drinking. You can see shows of those healing gurus...goddesses in Sri Lanka's dirty television channels on weekends or during the holidays.

Haiti is a country more famous for these kinds of demonic diseases than South Asia. As soon as we say Vodou, we think of an image of demons dancing around a bonfire. Haiti is a different world. There is enough information to talk about voodoo separately.

But let's simply understand that voodoo is a way of life that is used to bring about demons, magic, spells, peace rituals, healing of diseases or luck.

Voodoo culture is rooted in Haitian society and cannot be removed in any way.

Organ has an amazing ability to make decisions in Haitian society and politics and influence the culture.

It is not wrong to say that Oungan is Yak Dessan or magicians who mastered Voodoo or Yakdesso.

In other words, people like Gnanakka, Dhammika Veededuru, Panakave Monk, Born Again Pastor are called Oungang in Haiti.

People bow down while walking on the road.

Working in Haiti is not easy for everyone. Haitians hate white people in particular, not because of white colonization or war.

Voodoo culture teaches these people that white skin is caused by the curses of demon spirits entering the body.

Although not all, I have personally met countless Haitians who believe these stories.

The island of Haiti is divided into two parts. One part is called the Dominican Republic and the other part is known as Haiti.

Haiti's nearest neighbor is Cuba. Jamaica on the other hand.

While the Dominican Republic is a rapidly developing country, Haiti is becoming the poorest and most difficult country in the world to live in.

How can Haiti fall into such a dark abyss when Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Bahamas, Cayman Islands are making great economic progress?

Natural disasters are not the only factor.

Compared to other countries, Haitians are incredibly proud of themselves. They say that no race is superior to them. The origin of Haitians is in West African countries.

Like other West Islanders, these people were brought as slaves from Africa.

The West Indian Islands or West Indian Islands are the islands where these enslaved people were temporarily held until they were sold to South and North American states.

Haiti is considered to be the first country to gain independence from imperialism.

Haitians began their struggle for independence from French rule in 1794. Haiti, which became an independent state in 1804, was recognized as a separate country in 1825.

These people love to introduce themselves as "the first nation to gain independence"... "the nation that taught them how to fight"... "the people who taught the world a lesson".

That is the uniqueness of Haiti with voodoo culture.

No matter how quickly independence was achieved, the situation in Haiti today is very dark. It is too dark to see an exit.

He had to work in Porto Prince for a while because he was involved with the International Red Cross. That's when I was able to see these people's voodoo healing rituals.

The World Health Organization spends a lot of money on health in Haiti. A doctor friend of mine was entrusted with the responsibility of giving vaccinations that protect against diseases.

He chooses places where voodoo pacification is practiced.

I just asked why you do that...

He says... "If that is not the case, none of these people will come forward to get the vaccine."

"It is mandatory to pay a lot of money to an aungan and bless them with vaccinations in front of these people.

Otherwise, it is false to inform these people."

In the middle of the night, burning piles of fire in an empty ground..hundreds of people gather around it..animal sacrifices are made..these festivals are not so pleasant.

One day, I received an invitation from my friend to see a chance to give the tetanus vaccine.

There was not that much knowledge about tetanus in those days.

Not only in medieval Europe, but even after the Renaissance, tetanus was known as the devil's disease.

In the Middle Ages, the victims of this demon received punishments such as banishment to the forest, sacrifice to fire, burying alive, and beheading.

Hundreds of Haitians gathered around a big bonfire near the sea and hummed or sang something to a strange tune.

You can see three or four patients lying on the ground in a completely distorted position near the bonfire.

The distorted faces from the bonfire look really like demons.

Anyone who does not have a correct idea about these patients will think that this is demonic possession.

Other than that, no other alternative idea comes to mind.

In fact, these are patients who have suffered from tetanus bacteria.

Until the 1920s, no cure was found for this disease.

When this bacteria enters the body, which can be seen in the soil of the wet and hot ground, the body becomes stiff.

Between 10% and 20% of patients die of the disease with broken bones, lacerations and skin tears.

Many patients are disabled due to yam.

Other patients recover within a week to three weeks.

(If anyone remembers the television drama Ella Neyal Kuravwa, they will remember how the lepers were treated.

Tetanus is a disease that spread such fear.)

It is these Oungans who offer to cure tetanus as well as other diseases that can be seen in Haiti.

These people are the wealthiest part of Haiti.

Tetanus patients are bathed in blood.. Raw meat slices.. Skulls are placed on their heads.. Smoked. They are tormented for hours in the underground holes.

After that, the medicine that my friend gave to Unagan is given to these patients.

In the end, my friend and the two Jamaican nurses together gave the vaccinations to the people who came to see this pacification after Augan blessed them. (especially for small children)

My duty is to hold the torch for our friends who are injecting.

I remember a story that one of my teachers told me before.

"Now, if you feel that you are ready for these four subjects... if you feel that you can make at least ninety percent of the companies... if you feel that you can score two B's and pass the exam, it is okay to have a Bodhi Pooja. Then a little strength will come to mind.. that even if there is no god, there was a sacrifice. But if you are not ready for the exam... if you can't balance the numbers properly... don't keep the pooja... don't dance nonsense with strings tied... you won't pass the exam."

Shanti Karma...maybe there will be some healing and mental relief.

But just like in Haiti, the cotton in the Kali temple will be enriched by these rites...

If the traditional Nadagam Kolam can be preserved, it is very valuable as a cultural element.

At the same time, if the world's most talented nation....the best religion....the greatest history is just like  to the politicians...the lay priests and the Ungans, there will be no difference in the past seventy-five years...one hundred and fifty years.

Is it possible to study in Haiti... that is a question that needs to be asked.
